How the Drama Studio works

The BedVibe Drama Studio turns a written script into a multi-voice audio drama in the browser. You paste dialogue, the studio splits it into blocks, generates each line in the voice and emotion you assigned it, and lays the results on a timeline where every block is sized to the exact number of seconds it actually takes to speak. From there you can recast a line into a different voice, rewrite a single sentence without regenerating anything else, layer ambience and music underneath, mix each channel, and export the finished piece as a WAV file.

You can open this page and look around without an account. Signing in — the button sits in the corner of the screen — connects your token balance so you can generate audio. Generating speech spends tokens at one token per syllable; nothing else on this page costs anything, and playing, dragging, mixing and exporting are all free once a line exists.

Writing a script

The script box accepts three formats, and you can mix them freely in one script:

The emotions you can name are neutral, angry, happy, scared, shouting and whisper. Each speaker name you use becomes a voice channel, so writing five different names gives you five channels to work with. This is the same script format the Audiobook Studio uses, so a script written for one opens in the other.

Press Parse script to turn the text into blocks without generating audio — this is free and lets you check the speakers and emotions were read correctly. Press Generate all when you are ready to synthesise every line.

The timeline, and what duration-true means

Every generated line becomes a blob on the timeline whose width is its real spoken length. A three-second line is three seconds wide. That means the timeline is not a rough sketch of your drama — it is the drama, and what you see is what you will hear.

Recasting a line into a different voice

Drag a blob up or down onto another voice channel and the studio will offer to re-voice that line. It asks first, so you cannot lose a take by accident. This is the fastest way to audition a character: write the whole scene with one speaker, then move individual lines around until the casting sounds right.

Editing one line without touching the rest

Click a blob to open it in the selected-block panel. There you can change its emotion from the dropdown, rewrite only that block's text, and press Regenerate blob. Nothing else in the drama is regenerated, so a single wrong word costs you one line rather than the whole scene. Delete removes the block, and pressing Del with a blob selected does the same thing.

Ambience, music and sound effects

Voice channels are not the only lanes. On a sound lane you can add ambience and effects — wind, room tone, a music bed, a door, whatever the scene needs — and place them under the dialogue at the exact moment they belong. You can upload your own audio file for a sound block, so material you already own can sit alongside generated speech.

Mixing: volume, panning and reverb

Right-click gives you the mixer, and it works at two levels:

Panning is what makes a two-hander sound like two people in a room rather than two recordings played in sequence. A master level meter shows you when the mix is running hot.

Exporting the finished drama

Mixdown → Stereo WAV renders the whole timeline — every voice, every sound layer, all mix settings — into one stereo WAV file. Mono WAV produces a single-channel file in the layout INaudio expects, for distribution platforms that require mono delivery. Export is offline: it renders from the audio already generated and does not spend tokens.

Saving and reloading a project

Save project writes your script, blocks, channel assignments, timeline positions and mix settings to a project file. Load project restores it. Long productions are meant to be worked on across several sittings rather than finished in one.

What it costs

Generating speech costs one token per syllable. Your token balance and your plan are shown at the top of the page. Parsing a script, moving blocks, recasting, mixing, playback, saving, loading and exporting do not cost tokens — only synthesising a line does. If you regenerate a single block you pay for that block alone.
