Full Story / Spoilers
The Mirelands is a volatile land ruled by three moons: the steady Silver Moon, the dream-inducing Green Moon, and the feared Red Moon, whose rise drives living minds toward raw survival and brings Dreadspines out of the marsh.
As the marshlands expand unnaturally, two patrols investigate the same growing threat from opposite sides. Urzak leads a small Ashridge orc patrol, including Krateus, Grash, Brakka, and the direfang Lupus, while Blademaster Thalen, Scout Mirae, and the root-listening ranger Esteti investigate the rot spreading into the Lythrean Forests.
The two patrols meet on a granite ridge and nearly clash, but the confrontation is shattered when the Red Moon rises out of cycle. The land breaks open, Dreadspines emerge, and both groups are forced to scatter. Esteti senses that the eastern path is about to collapse and escapes northwest with Krateus, an orc strangely resistant to the Red Moon’s influence.
Pursued and cornered by a massive ancient Dreadspine, Krateus and Esteti are forced to fight together. With unexpected help from wild direfangs protecting their pup, they kill the creature, but Krateus is poisoned by its ventral spine. The story ends with the direfangs accepting them and guiding them toward the mountain ledges while Esteti searches desperately for berries that may keep Krateus alive.
